Small apartment buildings in various localities in Moldova will be subject to a free energy audit in the coming weeks.

At this stage, the process of signing Memoranda of Understanding with Condominium Owners Associations (APC) and administrators who manage the audited buildings is underway, reports ipn.md.

The 15 selected blocks are located in the cities of Edineț, Bălți, Chișinău, Hâncești, Cahul and Ceadâr-Lunga. These buildings will first benefit from a free energy audit, and based on the results obtained, ten of them will subsequently have access to full design and technical planning for renovation works.

The costs for the audit and design are fully covered by the "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova" (E4M) project.

"The initiative will allow us to test new practices and technologies in the case of blocks with a smaller number of apartments, in order to adjust financing mechanisms, with specific conditions," said CNED director Ion Muntean.

The ten selected blocks will have access to funding for the actual works, with a non-refundable contribution of up to 70% provided by the Moldovan Residential Energy Efficiency Fund (FEERM). The difference of up to 30% will be covered from other sources, including the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund and tenants' contributions.

"It is important that homeowners are well informed about the benefits of energy efficiency and the nature of an energy audit. For us, Memoranda of Understanding are essential for cooperation and successful implementation," emphasized Christian Borchard, Implementation Manager at the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) of the Norwegian-funded E4M component.

The FEERM program is developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, with the financial support of the European Union, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy, supported by the "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova" project.
