Hexagon founder buys 32 ha of the former IMGB of Cluj!

Cluj-Napoca businessman Florin Mariş, founder of the Hexagon group, has made one of the largest land acquisitions in Romania in the last ten years: the purchase of the former CUG industrial platform in Cluj-Napoca – the equivalent of the IMGB in Transylvania. The land has an area of 32 hectares, and the value of the transaction exceeds 20 million euros.

"The acquisition of CUG marks a natural step in our strategy to invest in the sustainable development of Cluj and to bring back to life spaces that were part of the city's identity," said Florin Mariş, CEO of Hexagon Group.

Over 5,000 apartments, shopping centers and thousands of square meters of offices can be built on the second largest land deal for a real estate project in the last 10 years. Only Vastint, through the acquisition of the 47 ha lot in Siseşti, can rival the transaction in Cluj.

In addition, the industrial platform will also have a metro station nearby when the infrastructure project is completed, with the Muncii station planned nearby.

CUG, once a symbol of Romanian heavy industry, has been in disrepair for the last two decades. Through this acquisition, Hexagon aims to transform the area into a new mixed urban hub, with residential, commercial and office functions, in proximity to the future mall developed by Prime Kapital and MAS REI.

The transaction was brokered by CBRE Romania, through the team led by Mihai Patrulescu and Daniel Cateliu, and legal advice was provided by Popovici Niţu Stoica & Asociaţii (PNSA), with a team coordinated by lawyer Florian Niţu.

The CUG acquisition comes two years after Hexagon bought the former 7-hectare Tehnofrig platform, where it is developing the ERA project, valued at over 300 million euros. Through these investments, Florin Mariş consolidates his position among the main real estate developers in Romania and puts Cluj back on the map of major urban regeneration projects.
